Huawei Mate 20 Pro to Feature Massive 6.9-inch OLED Screen from Samsung

Recently, there were reports suggesting that
Huawei is working on a large-sized OLED panels for their upcoming smartphones that will be launched around Q4 this year or Q1 2019. Now today the South Korean publication called The Bell has claimed that the company has ordered 6.9-inch OLED panels from Samsung Display and it is speculated to be featured in the Mate 20 series line up.
According to the publication the Samsung Display is currently providing samples of flat 6.9-inch OLED panels to Huawei and the full fledged supply of the OLED screens is expected to begin by the end of Q3. Recall last year, Huawei has launched the Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro in Germany on October 16 now if we consider this new report, the timing of the supply suggests that Huawei may use this OLED panels on  Mate 20 line (Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro) or Huawei P30 series smartphones, that are expected to debut in the last quarter of this year. However, Huawei's P-line isn’t expected to debut the next-generation devices until MWC 2019, this gives a clear hint at the Mate 20 line, as the main contender.

At present Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro are expected to make an official debut around October while the recent reports have suggested that the Mate 20 may feature a 6.1-inch display like P20 Pro whereas the Mate 20 Pro may have a 6.9 inch display. In April, the AnTuTu listing of the Mate 20 series smartphones has surfaced online which revealed that the device will be powered by  Kirin 980 chipset and it has achieved a score of 350,000+ on the benchmarking platform.

The Kirin 980 SoC will be manufactured by the TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) and this chipset will be based on 7nm architecture which is also used in Apple’s A12 processor. The Kirin 980 is also reported to feature a new NPU from Cambricon Technologies (Cambricon is a Chinese company that makes smart chips for AI and cloud computing), this new Cambrian AI processor will provide a 5 trillion calculations per watt and it will be available in dual, quad,  and octa-core variants, depending on the level of AI processing required. The Kirin 980  also having an ARM’s core A75 CPU cores but will feature Huawei’s own GPU.
