Back in June 2018 Huawei has showcased its 5G connectivity products along with some other key enabling technologies at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Shanghai, China (here). Now at the International Neuromodulation Society meeting held in Beijing, China on September 8 and 9, Honor’s president George Zhao has announced that they will launch the first 5G smartphone in 2019 .
According to a keynote speech by Honor’s president George Zhao during the event which was titled “Smartphone Innovations in the Age of 5G”, the CEO revealed the aforementioned timeframe. He also stated that mobile carriers that can find the best solutions for their customers will become the top players to lead the 5G era. However it seems a big move for a brand that’s largely seen in the U.S. and it is speculated that the company will opt more affordable option when compared to its rivals likes of Samsung, Google, Apple, and others.
At present Honor’s parent company, Huawei is at the forefront of the development of 5G technology infrastructure, while other manufacturers like Samsung and Lenovo are just behind by launching 5G smartphones in the first half of 2019. A recent report has suggested that Huawei has requested its key suppliers to manufacture the various components for the 5G smartphone and device has been confirmed to feature a new Cooling module which is to be produced exclusively by Taiwan-based Auras Technology. Now it seems 2019 will be the year of 5G, but the main question is whether major carriers will be able to offer enough coverage to the 5G smartphones.
